Abstract
The inhibitory effects of various vegetable juices on the mutagenicities in Ames test, spore rec assay and the growth of AZ-521 human gastric cancer cells and MG-63 human osteocarcinoma cells were studied. Antimutagenic activities toward aflatoxinB1 (AFB1) and N-methyl-N¡¯-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) were observed when juices of Angelica keiskei Koidz, sowthistle, beet, comfrey and native lettuce were added in the Salmonella typhimurium TA100. Especially the juice of Angelica keiskei Koidz showed strong antimutagenic activity on AFB1. In spore rec assay using B. subtilis H17 (Rec ) and M45 (Rec ), the juice of Angelica keiskei Koidz also showed the same effect. The juice of Angelica keiskei Koidz also revealed the inhibitory effects on the growth of AZ-521 human gastric cancer cells and MG-63 human osteocarcinoma cells.
